Your first 30 minutes: setup checklist
From signup to your first labor distribution, in two stages.
You don't need to configure everything at once. Stage 1 gets your team tracking time today. Stage 2 prepares your first labor distribution.
Stage 1: start tracking time
- Set your payroll frequency. Go to Company Settings → Payroll Periods and choose how you pay (weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly). WiseCost generates the periods automatically.
- Invite your employees. Go to Employees, select an employee imported from QuickBooks, and click Create User. Each person receives an email invitation with login credentials. You can send them the For employees guide so they start logging hours on day one.
- Enable time tracking for yourself. If you also log hours, associate your admin user with your QuickBooks Online employee record (see Logging your own hours as an admin).
That's it. Your team can start logging hours by contract and cost category immediately.
Stage 2: prepare your first labor distribution
- Configure pay for each employee. Enter each employee's pay for the period manually, or import it from your payroll provider's CSV export in the first step of labor distribution.
- Set your posting accounts. Choose the debit and credit accounts WiseCost will use when posting journal entries to QuickBooks.
- Run labor distribution. Once timesheets are approved, follow the 3-step wizard (see Running your first distribution).
